How has COVID impacted your practice?
COVID has impacted my practice by increasing the number of individuals seeking treatment for depression and anxiety disorders who never had any previous history of depression or anxiety. In addition, among those who previously suffered with psychiatric disorders, many of them experienced exacerbation of symptoms, including more social anxiety and isolation.
What are the biggest changes you have seen in healthcare?
Since 1996, when I began nursing, many things have changed. When I started, pain was considered the fifth vital sign, with different expectations and measurements for quality of care. We now have an opioid crisis that has devastated many and changed the way pain is managed. We now recognize addiction as a substance use disorder and have treatment that is able to manage this disorder and assist our patients in leading happy, healthy, and productive lives.
What is your passion?
My passion professionally is making sure I give my best to each of my patients. I do this two ways: first, I meet them where they are; and second, I always seek opportunities to further my education to improve on providing safe, competent, evidence-based care.
Why did you apply to Centerville Clinics?
I applied for a couple of reasons. I grew up with my family being coal miners, and the Yablonski Clinic is where many of them "doctored." Because Centerville Clinics is a Federally Qualified Health Center, I can care for my patients regardless of their economic status. In addition, I grew up in various areas of Washington County and want to be able to make a positive impact in my community where my family and friends are.
What are you most proud of, either in your practice or personal life?
Personally, I am most proud of my family, and the loving, giving individuals my children have grown to be, and my four wonderful grandsons. Professionally, I am most proud of the relationships I have established with my patients, and the trust they place in me when they refer a friend or loved one to me for care.
