REVIEW USMeet Katya Lebedev, DO
Katya Lebedev earned a bachelor’s degree at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), then studied at Agnes Scott College before earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadephia College of Osteopathic Medicine - Georgia campus. She completed a General Psychiatry Residency and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital. She is board certified.
What are the biggest changes you have seen in healthcare or Psychiatry over the years?
In my field, I have seen a big shift in how we practice medicine, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. There does seem to be a general commitment to providing more access to care for kids and teens that are living the direct and downstream effects of the lockdown, especially in terms of mental and behavioral health. It is now of upmost importance that we teach youth what healthy looks like, how to recognize what is unsustainable, and that there are resources and tools to support them in achieving personal, social,
and academic success.
What is your passion?
I am an eager, dedicated, and self-motivated Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist passionate about serving youth and their families in a supportive, team-based organization with a focus on high value early interventions and comprehensive patient centered care in the community. I particularly enjoy working in school-based programming. My work in mental health is both very professionally and personally meaningful to me. I strive to be a role model and educator in my daily life for disadvantaged and disabled persons in all ways.
Why did you apply to Centerville Clinics?
I had always intended for medicine to be a true vocation, and I was looking for more than just a "job." I am confident in my strengths and weaknesses as a provider, and I was unwilling to settle for a role that wouldn't continue to feed my excitement for impacting children and teens. I was looking for a unicorn job for a unicorn person, and I was optimistic that it was out there. My academic supervisors had previously struggled to imagine what that might look like, but one day my training director called saying, "Katya, I got a phone call, and I think God has found you your dream job." This position checked all of my very specific boxes, the timing was a miracle, and I feel that I'm here for a reason.
What are you most proud of whether in your practice or personal life?
Though it has not always been easy, I am very proud of the quality of care I offer to each of my patients. I am proud to be an advocate for neurodiverse individuals in medicine. I am proud to be able to say that I live every day with a sense of integrity that can't be bought or faked. And though it isn't always easy, I am proud of how caring, compassionate, and curious I am in all aspects of my life.
