Dr. Spyropoulos has been practicing for 24 years. Dr. Bill (as he is known) earned his undergraduate degree at Penn State University and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at the New York College of Medicine. Dr. Bill completed his residency and was Chief Resident at New York’s Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
What are the biggest changes you have seen in healthcare over the years?
The destruction of the solo practicioner in favor of large group-owned practices and hospital-owned practices. The old-school doctor’s office is a thing of the past and I think the doctor/patient relationship has suffered because of it, except for the Community Health Center concept.
What is your passion?
Podiatry may sound like a very limited practice arena but it actually allows us to treat a multitude of body systems and manifestations of abnormalities in those systems, which often present first in the lower extremity and feet. We evaluate the circulatory system, the nervous system, the dermatologic system and more. My greatest passion, however, is wound care. Being able to help a patient heal their wound(s) and prevent limb loss and the significant decrease in life expectancy that goes with it is the greatest calling in my book.
Why did you apply to Centerville Clinics?
I began my practice life in a outpatient clinic in a very rough part of Brooklyn NY in an area that had limited options. I wanted to work here because it allowed me to return to work in a facility that gave equal and exemplary care to all people regardless of insurance and income.
What are you most proud of, whether in your practice or personal life?
I am most proud of my family and the exceptional human being we've created, my son Xander!
