How has COVID impacted your practice?
The most visible impact is the increase in mental health needs, as many struggle with anxiety, depression, and daily stress. Often these issues lead to self-medicate with drugs and/or alcohol which only exacerbates the issues. Pair that with the need for additional licensed therapists/providers and you have potential for people not getting the help they need. Burnout is a major problem among providers. It is very important that providers find something that re-energizes them.
What are the biggest changes you have seen in healthcare?
The biggest changes are advancement of vaccines and treatments for patients, along with increased demand for collaborative medical and mental health care. Most patients receive other healthcare in addition to therapy. Communication is key to ensuring appropriate care.
What is your passion?
My passion is helping those who suffered the loss of a loved one. Being in that category myself, I understand the daily struggles and the “firsts” that people experience after a loss.
Why did you apply to Centerville Clinics?
I joined the Clinics 10 years ago after working for many years with children in behavior modification. When a supervisory position opened at Centerville, I knew that would be a good fit for me. Nine years later, I obtained my license to practice therapy. I had truly missed interacting with people struggling with mental health needs.
What are you most proud of, whether in your practice or personal life?
Personally, I am proud of my faith, my seven brothers and sisters, and my husband Patrick. Professionally, I am most proud of my ability to relate to patients.
