REVIEW USMeet Angela Kalia, MD
Dr. Kalia earned a bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with a focus in biology, and a minor in psychology from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada. She earned her medical degree at the American University of Integrative Sciences, Barbados. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Detroit Medical Center, Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, where she was Chief Resident in her third year.
What are the biggest changes you have seen in healthcare over the years?
My medical training has been uniquely shaped by the Covid-19 pandemic, as I began and completed my residency during this challenging time. While the pandemic has transformed the landscape of medicine, especially in primary care, with innovations like telemedicine becoming more prominent, it has also highlighted our collective resilience in the face of adversity.
What is your passion?
Since age five, my aspiration has been to become a Family Medicine Physician, marking my earliest and most genuine passion. The opportunity to practice comprehensive family medicine, spanning from newborn care to end-of-life support, fosters invaluable connections with my patients, and for that, I am truly grateful. Beyond medicine, I find joy in hiking, running, culinary exploration with new recipes, reading, and cheering on my beloved NHL team, the Canucks (Go Canucks Go!).
Why did you apply to Centerville Clinics?
I chose Centerville because I'm passionate about making a meaningful impact in the community as a physician. Working at an FQHC allows us to provide vital care to those who might otherwise go without. It's the very essence of why I embarked on this journey into medicine.
What are you most proud of whether in your practice or personal life?
I am immensely proud of my family and deeply grateful for all that my parents have done and sacrificed to support me in pursuing my dream of working as a family medicine physician. Their unwavering dedication has been instrumental in shaping my path, and I am eager to use my profession to make a positive impact on the lives of my patients.
